[Solved] Sql server – Cannot connect to remote instance

Offir Asks: Sql server – Cannot connect to remote instance
I try to connect to a remote windows server that has a SQL Instance running using sql authentication via my local SSMS and this the error I get:

Cannot connect to
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 – Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)

Steps I made:

  1. Open port on the server to TCP 1433 – Inbound Rules
  2. Sql server configuration manager – sqlserver(mssqlserver), sql server browswer, sql server agent are Running
  3. Allow remote connections to this server is checked

How I try to connect to the instance:

Server name:
Authentication: SQL server authentication
Login: same user name as in remote
Password: same password as in remote

Remote server
