brentonstrine Asks: Domain expired more than 30 days ago but is still owned by registrar, registrar is not responding. What will happen to the domain next? [duplicate]
I had a domain expire due to a failed auto-renew payment. It expired without me noticing on June 21. The registrar (Freenom) kept the domain and email accounts up and running until July 27. When the website went down I logged in to the registrar and there is no way to renew or recapture the domain. It’s as if the domain was never in the account at all–there’s no trace of it.

I have reached out to the registrar via help tickets and email but have not heard back from them. I think this registrar is falling apart and I think it’s unlikely they will get back to me at all.

WHOIS indicates that my registrar still owns the domain. A few relevant bits from the WHOIS:

Code:
Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.freenom.com
Registrar URL: www.freenom.com
Updated Date: 2021-07-27T03:08:00Z
Creation Date: 2018-06-21T02:27:38Z
Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2021-06-21T02:27:38Z
Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited - http://www.icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited

I am trying to figure out what is going to happen to the domain next, and when. I’m assuming Freenom will not respond to me. I have already backordered the domain to try to catch it when it is released but I have no idea how long that will take.
